While immigrating to a new country, there is a sense of curiosity to know about the culture, language and important rules that need to be followed there. It is a good idea to gain familiarity of all the important aspects of a place prior to final visit. This would not merely assist in adjusting to the new culture but also be of great help in saving you from committing any activity that could prove fatal as per their laws. Like any other country Australia too has certain laws that need to be followed to keep one from getting dragged into any kind of trouble.

MM Visa Aid Consultancy lists out a few activities that are a strict NO, No in Australia:

Smoking:

The country restricts smoking in places that are not outdoors. Some offices and pubs though permit smoking in their premises but smoking inside a Taxi, Bus, Shopping Centers, Airports, Food Courts, etc is not allowed.

Alcohol:

Consumption of alcohol is not allowed in public areas such as parks, beaches etc. You can drink it inside your home, in a licensed restaurant or in a pub. At the same time, drink driving is a very serious offence, and the limit is about 2 cans of beer, or 1 glass of wine or half a glass of spirit. Fines starts at AU$ 75 for public places and go into their thousands for drunk driving. Further, only individuals of age group 18 years and above could purchase alcohol and tobacco.

Drugs:

Illegal production or selling of drugs is an offence.  The consumption is tolerated but reprehended, in case of foreigners it can lead to jail and deportation.

Street vending:

Selling things on streets without a license is not allowed. For example, you can't catch a beautiful fish and sell it to a restaurant, or produce food in your home to sell to the general public. This could lead to heavy fines.

Work:

Australian law prohibits tourist visa holders from working in Australia.

Delay in Fine payment:

Inability to pay fines on time may lead to bigger fines and confiscation of your assets to cover it in case you don't have money, or even prison.

Quarrel:

In Australia, touching a person without consent is considered invasion of privacy and physical aggression that could lead to prosecution. Hence, even touching a person could land you in serious trouble.

Trash Disposal:

You are legible for AU$ 75 fine on throwing anything on the streets.

Discrimination on any grounds:
Racial, Religious and discriminatory matters, are passive of prosecution and even jail. Also you need to take permission before clicking a photograph of someone you don’t know. Also, supplying phone numbers and addresses without a persons' consent could lead to prosecution by breach of the privacy act. 

Pedestrian Crossings:
In case of no pedestrian lights at pedestrian crossing to help you cross the road, you are expected to stop and wait until a person finishes crossing. In case of intersections with traffic lights, you have to follow the lights. Also, be aware of the other indication signs on parks, beaches, and streets govern the rules as well as follow them at all times.
